Hi Salamualaikum everyone! We're pretty excited to announce an upcoming Arabic calligraphy workshop in April. It will be conducted by our very own artist/calligrapher, Faddho. You can read more about him below.

Synopsis
This exclusive calligraphy preview session will bring art-lovers on a journey to discover the beauty of a written artform; "Khat" is absorbing, demands discipline yet recreational and ultimately is a mode of expression. Participants will get a chance to learn writing their own names in an expressive Arabic calligraphic style and appreciate the aesthetics of a traditional typographic representation. The session will also include a live-demo calligraphy by the presenter, Faddho & MVAC [themvac.com]

More on the Artist
Faizal Somadi is a graphic designer and freelance artist based in Singapore. He has trained in Latin calligraphy for 14 years and took up Arabic calligraphy about 8 years ago. His calligraphic works aim to explore the way of the words and letters and craft them into beautiful visual manifestations. Learning calligraphy from various teachers locally and in Malaysia, he has worked and learned with various Singapore-based international artists and professionals by involving in various projects and exhibitions. Apart from participating in local and regional art exhibitions, he occasionally conducts calligraphy workshops. Faizal seeks advice from a religious scholar particularly pertaining religious aesthetics. He’s also an active contributor to local arts club The Mediterranean Visual Arts Club (The MVAC). Apart from his graphic design profession, he also receives calligraphic requests from private clients. He remains passionate about Arabic calligraphy and continues to explore greater calligraphic pursuits.


This event is organized by the MVAC and Faddho, in conjunction with Prizm 2010 Graduation Show and supported by NLB.
